It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Brad Arnold, the iconic frontman of 3 Doors Down, at the age of 47. Arnold passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 7th, surrounded by his wife Jennifer and family, after a courageous battle with kidney cancer.

News of his passing was shared by his representatives, bringing an end to a journey Arnold publicly shared after announcing his stage four clear cell renal carcinoma diagnosis in May of last year. At the time, he expressed unwavering faith, stating, "We serve a mighty God, and he can overcome anything. So I have no fear. I really, sincerely am not scared of it at all."

In a heartfelt statement on Instagram, 3 Doors Down honored their founding member: "As a founding member, vocalist, and original drummer of 3 Doors Down, Brad helped redefine mainstream rock music, blending post-grunge accessibility with emotionally direct songwriting and lyrical themes that resonated with everyday listeners."

The band further acknowledged Arnold's profound impact: "Brad’s songwriting became a cultural touchstone for a generation, producing some of the most enduring hits of the 2000s. His music reverberated far beyond the stage, creating moments of connect, joy, faith and sharted experiences that will live on long after the stages he performed on."

They also celebrated his personal qualities, highlighting his “kindness, humour and generosity,” adding, “Those closest to him will remember not only his talent, but his warmth, humility, faith, and deep love for his family and friends.”

The family has expressed deep gratitude for the outpouring of love and requested privacy during this difficult time.

Tributes have poured in from across the music community, including Alter Bridge, who cherished Arnold’s “friendship,” and Creed, who sent their “love to the Arnold and 3DD family.”

Born on September 27, 1978, Arnold formed 3 Doors Down in Escatawpa, Mississippi, in 1996, initially handling lead vocals and drums alongside Matt Roberts on lead guitar and Todd Harrell on bass.

His songwriting prowess was evident early on, penning the band’s breakthrough hit, ‘Kryptonite,’ during a high school maths class at the age of 15. Released in 2000 as their debut single, it soared to Number Three on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Song.

This success paved the way for their debut album, ‘The Better Life,’ later that year, featuring hits like ‘Loser’ and ‘Duck And Run.’ The album achieved remarkable sales, exceeding seven million units in the US, and the track ‘Be Like That’ found its way into American Pie 2.

3 Doors Down went on to release five more studio albums, with ‘Us And The Night’ being the most recent in 2016. That same year, Matt Roberts tragically passed away at the age of 38 from a prescription drug overdose.
