A psychiatry clinic in Los Angeles, Amen Clinics, has settled with the family of the late Aaron Carter over a wrongful death lawsuit related to his 2022 overdose.

According to court documents filed on Tuesday, May 12th, Amen Clinics will pay a "confidential sum" to resolve claims against the clinic and one of its psychiatrists, Dr. John Faber. The settlement is reportedly within the range of potential damages the family could have won at trial, estimated to be less than $325,000.

Carter tragically drowned in a bathtub at the age of 34, with drugs found in his system. The lawsuit, initiated by his former fiancée on behalf of their four-year-old son, alleged that two doctors overprescribed Xanax and that two pharmacies improperly filled the prescriptions.

Amen Clinics and Faber have not admitted any wrongdoing as part of the settlement. Their legal representatives maintain that the clinic adhered to all standards of care and that Carter's death was caused by inhaling gas from compressed air canisters (difluoroethane), not Xanax.

The remaining defendants in the case – dentist Jason Mirabile, Walgreens, and a Santa Monica Medical Plaza Pharmacy – argue that the amount of Xanax in Carter's system was insufficient to cause unconsciousness. These defendants are scheduled to proceed to trial in October.

Carter rose to fame opening for the Backstreet Boys, which included his brother Nick Carter, in the late 1990s. He achieved teen idol status, with his 2000 album Aaron’s Party (Come and Get It) reaching No. 4 on the Billboard 200. Later albums, Oh Aaron (2001) and Another Earthquake (2002), peaked at No. 7 and No. 18, respectively.

In his later years, Carter openly discussed his struggles with substance abuse, undergoing multiple rehab stints and attending outpatient therapy before his death.
