AI Music Infiltration: Deezer Reports Nearly Half of Uploads Are AI-Generated
Deezer reveals a surge in AI-generated music uploads, comprising nearly half of all new tracks on the platform, sparking concerns about artist rights and music quality.

Streaming platform Deezer has revealed a significant shift in its music library: nearly half of all new music uploaded is now generated by AI.
The French streaming service reports approximately 75,000 new AI-generated tracks are added daily, accounting for 44% of total uploads. Despite this influx, AI-generated songs represent only 1-3% of user listening time. Deezer states they are actively detecting and flagging 85% of these AI uploads, effectively demonetizing them.
Deezer implemented an AI-detection tool in early 2025 and committed to labeling AI-generated songs last summer. The platform also pledges transparency by removing algorithmic recommendations for AI content.
The 44% figure marks a substantial increase from 28% reported last September, which itself was up from 10% in January. This rapid growth underscores the escalating presence of AI in music creation.
Alexis Lanternier, CEO of Deezer, stated: “AI-generated music is now far from a marginal phenomenon and as daily deliveries keep increasing, we hope the whole music ecosystem will join us in taking action to help safeguard artist’s rights and promote transparency for fans.”
He added, "Thanks to our technology and the proactive measures we put in place more than a year ago, we have shown that it’s possible to reduce AI-related fraud and payment dilution in streaming to a minimum.”
This announcement follows a Deezer study from last November, which found that 97% of people “can’t tell the difference” between real and AI music. The study, conducted with Ipsos, surveyed around 9,000 people from eight countries, asking them to identify AI-generated tracks. The results showed a significant failure rate, with over half (52%) expressing discomfort at not being able to distinguish between human and AI-created music. 71% were reportedly shocked by the results.
Only 19% of respondents indicated trust in AI, while 51% believe AI's use in music production could lead to low-quality, generic music.
In September, Spotify announced a crackdown on AI, removing 75 million “spammy tracks” and targeting impersonators. Their statement emphasized the rapid evolution of AI technology and the need for continuous policy updates.
Reports also emerged that AI-generated songs were being uploaded to deceased musicians’ Spotify profiles without authorization, raising further ethical concerns.
In March, a singer-songwriter pleaded guilty to defrauding music streamers out of millions in royalties by flooding platforms with AI-generated songs and automated bots. This marked a significant legal precedent.
The UK government has since reversed plans to allow AI firms to use copyrighted work without permission, though industry stakeholders argue that more action is needed to protect artists' rights.
