After a six-and-a-half-year hiatus from the touring stage, Ariana Grande made a triumphant return last night in Oakland, delivering a long-awaited live debut of tracks from her 2024 album eternal sunshine. This highly anticipated comeback follows a period largely dedicated to her role in Wicked, and comes as Grande also ushers in a new era, marked by the recent release of 'hate that i made you love me,' a lead single from her upcoming project, petal.
Fans at the Oakland Arena were treated to a setlist brimming with live premieres. Grande unveiled several tracks from eternal sunshine for the first time, including 'dandelion,' 'just like magic,' 'warm,' 'twilight zone,' 'past life,' and 'Hampstead.' She also gave 'hate that i made you love me' its first live performance.
The night was a journey through her discography, featuring beloved hits that hadn't graced a stage in years. 'One Last Time,' 'Break Free,' 'Dangerous Woman,' and the original version of 'Honeymoon Avenue' were performed for the first time since 2019. Tracks like 'thank you, next' and her powerful collaboration with Lady Gaga, 'Rain On Me,' saw their first live outing since 2020. Additionally, 'safety net' and 'positions' returned to the setlist, having not been performed since 2021.
With petal slated for release at the end of July and her tour extending into early September, enthusiasts can undoubtedly look forward to even more live debuts as the new era unfolds.
