Bad Bunny Lands Lead Role in Residente's 'Porto Rico,' Co-Starring Norton and Bardem
Bad Bunny secures his first leading role in 'Porto Rico,' a Caribbean Western directed by Residente, featuring an all-star cast including Viggo Mortensen, Edward Norton, and Javier Bardem.

The multi-talented Bad Bunny is set to star in his first leading role in Porto Rico, the feature directorial debut from Puerto Rican rapper Residente, according to Deadline. This “epic Caribbean western and historical drama” boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Viggo Mortensen, Edward Norton, and Javier Bardem. Adding even more prestige to the project, Alejandro G. Iñárritu will serve as executive producer.
Porto Rico has been in development since 2023. The screenplay, penned by Residente and Alexander Dinelaris, reportedly centers on José Maldonado Román, a 19th-century Puerto Rican revolutionary known as the Águila Blanca.
"I have dreamed of making a film about my country since I was a child," Residente told Deadline. "Puerto Rico’s true history has always been surrounded by controversy. This film is a reaffirmation of who we are—told with the intensity and honesty that our history deserves."
This isn't Bad Bunny's first foray into acting. He previously appeared in the Brad Pitt action flick Bullet Train, Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing, and Happy Gilmore 2. This month alone, he took home three trophies from the 2026 Grammy Awards—including a historic Album of the Year win for Debí Tirar Más Fotos—and performed the halftime show at Super Bowl LX.
