It's shaping up to be Billy Idol's year! The punk icon has secured a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nomination and is the subject of a new documentary, Billy Idol Should Be Dead.
Directed by Jonas Åkerlund, the trailer features stars like Miley Cyrus, Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day, and Duff McKagan of Guns N' Roses, discussing Idol's lasting impact. Cyrus, who collaborated with Idol on her 2020 song “Night Crawling,” declares, “I watch Billy Idol footage like it’s porn. There’s no one hotter than Billy-fucking-Idol.”
The trailer opens with a young Idol being asked what he’d do with rock star money. “I’d spend it on drugs,” he quips. The documentary explores his career, from MTV superstardom to his 1990 motorcycle accident, highlighting his resilience. “It’s easy to say it’s the drugs,” Idol reflects in the clip. “But what about if it’s me? What about if it’s me doing this?”
Billy Idol Should Be Dead recently premiered in Los Angeles and New York City, with a wider release planned. This Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nomination marks his second.
