Boards of Canada vs. The White House: A Clash of Ideologies Over "Deep Time"
The reclusive electronic duo Boards of Canada finds their new track, "Deep Time," unexpectedly used in a White House social media video, sparking controversy and a swift response from their label, Warp Records.

How does this happen? Tomorrow, the great and reclusive Scottish electronic duo Boards Of Canada will release Inferno, their first album in 13 years. Last night, Donald Trump's White House set its latest social-media propaganda video to the group's new track "Deep Time," initially mailed to fans on VHS tapes under the title "Tape 05." The White House video even adapts the song's crackly VHS aesthetic. If you're keeping up with new Boards Of Canada releases and also cranking out Trump administration online propaganda, then you're a real piece of shit.
Like many of the artists who did not consent to have their music used in Trump-related online videos, Boards Of Canada are not happy with this development. The actual members of BOC aren't active on social media channels, but the band's longtime label Warp released a short statement about it: "Warp Records and Boards of Canada do not condone the unauthorised use of their music for political messaging." Obviously. Duh.
