Britney Spears has been arrested for a DUI in Ventura County, California, marking another challenging episode in the pop icon's life. The arrest follows recent social media exchanges and comes amidst ongoing public scrutiny.
Britney Spears has been arrested for a DUI, as reported by TMZ. The incident occurred around 9:30 PM on Wednesday in Ventura County, California. The California Highway Patrol apprehended the singer, and she was booked around 3:00 AM on Thursday. According to Ventura County Sheriff's inmate records, Spears has since been released and is scheduled to appear in court on May 4. While she has faced criticism for unsafe driving before, this appears to be her first arrest. Notably, Spears' once-active Instagram account has disappeared.
"Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life," a representative for Spears told Rolling Stone.
Recently, Spears issued lengthy social media statements responding to allegations made in her ex-husband Kevin Federline's new memoir, You Thought You Knew. Federline accused Spears of erratic and dangerous behavior, including cocaine use, around their two sons. "I know his book will sell loads more than mine," Spears wrote. "If you really love someone then you don’t help them by humiliating them."
Spears published her own memoir, The Woman In Me, in 2023, which portrayed her ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake in a less-than-flattering light. Months after the book's publication, Timberlake faced his own DWI arrest in the Hamptons in June 2024. Earlier this week, he sued to prevent the release of bodycam footage of his arrest, claiming it would be an invasion of privacy.
