Bruce Springsteen's "Streets of Minneapolis" Debuts at No. 1 on Digital Song Sales Chart
Bruce Springsteen's protest song, "Streets of Minneapolis," soared to the top of the Digital Song Sales chart despite only being available for two days, driven by its powerful message and Springsteen's enduring appeal.

Bruce Springsteen's politically charged single, “Streets of Minneapolis,” has made a surprising debut at No. 1 on Billboard’s Digital Song Sales chart, dated Feb. 7. The song achieved this feat despite being available for only two days during the tracking week.
According to Luminate, “Streets of Minneapolis” sold 16,000 downloads in the week ending Jan. 29, having been released on Jan. 28.
This marks Springsteen’s first No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart, which was established in 2004. It's also his first top 20 appearance, surpassing the No. 22 peak of Mark Knopfler’s Guitar Heroes’ “Going Home (Theme From Local Hero),” where Springsteen was part of the all-star cast.
The song's attention stems from its subject matter. Springsteen penned and recorded the anti-ICE (United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement) track following the deaths of Renée Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis in January, during Operation Metro Surge.
Springsteen initially performed the song live at the Tom Morello-helmed Defend Minnesota benefit concert in Minneapolis on Jan. 30.
"Streets of Minneapolis" also debuted at No. 20 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, fueled by sales, streams, and early radio airplay. The song garnered 678,000 official U.S. streams and 175,000 in airplay audience during its initial two days.
The Feb. 14-dated Billboard charts will reflect the first full seven days of tracking (Jan. 30-Feb. 5) for “Streets of Minneapolis.”
All Billboard charts dated Feb. 7 will update on Billboard.com Tuesday, Feb. 3.
