Cardi B Electrifies SNL's 1000th Episode: A Deep Dive

Last night, Cardi B made a triumphant return to SNL. The Bronx rapper previously graced the SNL stage in 2018, coinciding with the release of her debut album, Invasion Of Privacy. This time around, while there was no pregnancy announcement akin to her previous appearance, she ignited the stage with a vibrant performance of "Bodega Baddie," a clear homage to her Dominican heritage. She followed this up with a performance of "ErrTime," both tracks from her recent album, Am I The Drama? Cardi also showcased her comedic timing in the Immigrant Dad Talk Show sketch, portraying Marcello Hernández's wife.

Yesterday's show was a significant milestone – the 1000th episode – and was hosted by Alexander Skarsgård. Despite having new projects like Pillion and a cameo in Charli XCX's Brat mockumentary The Moment, Skarsgård's opening monologue took a different route, as he jokingly annoyed the SNL band and pretended to play the saxophone.

Skarsgård's father, Stellan, made cameo appearances in two recurring sketches, Scandinavian Movie and Immigrant Dad Talk Show. The cold open was led by Pete Davidson, who debuted his new Netflix talk show the day before, appearing as US "border czar" Tom Homan. Former 30 Rock star Jack McBrayer also made a cameo during Sarah Sherman's Weekend Update segment as a weather correspondent. The next episode, set to air on Feb. 28, will be hosted by Heated Rivalry star Connor Storrie, with Mumford & Sons as the musical guest.

In the lead-up to the episode, Cardi B playfully declared her preference for "wetness" over participating in Dry January.

In other news, the lawyer who questioned Cardi B about her alleged “gang affiliation” during her recent assault trial faced consequences last week. A month prior to the trial's commencement last August, LA County Judge Ian C. Fusselman prohibited any mention of the artist's past actions, including allegations of “former association with a gang or gang members during her youth.” The plaintiff’s lawyer, Ron A. Rosen Janfaza, violated this court order and is now required to pay $1,500 by Feb. 27.
