Chance The Rapper Wins Legal Battle, Former Manager Owed Just $35
Chance The Rapper emerges victorious in a long-standing legal dispute with his former manager, Pat Corcoran, with the jury awarding minimal damages.

The legal saga between Chance The Rapper and his former manager, Pat Corcoran, also known as Pat The Manager, has finally reached a conclusion after more than five years. The dispute began in 2020 when Corcoran sued Chance, alleging a breach of an oral agreement regarding a 15% profit share and claiming over $2.5 million in unreimbursed expenses. He also cited a "sunset clause" extending three years post-termination.
Chance subsequently countersued in 2021, accusing Corcoran of "self-dealing and incompetence." The jury has now ruled in favor of Chance, finding that Corcoran failed to substantiate his claims. Adding insult to injury, Corcoran now owes Chance $35.
While Chance initially sought $1 million in damages, he expressed satisfaction with the outcome. "I claim victory in the name of the Lord,” he told the Sun-Times.
The jury also suggested that Corcoran relinquish the domain name ChanceRaps.com, which he had been using to sell Chance The Rapper merchandise. Jay Scharkey, one of Corcoran’s attorneys, acknowledged the verdict, stating, "We respect the jury’s decision, but the message to music managers is clear: Get it in writing. The jury award of $35 speaks to how seriously the jury viewed Chance’s case."
In other news, Chance has recently ventured into the tech world, becoming a spokesman for an AI company.
