Charli XCX is diving headfirst into the world of horror, landing a role in an upcoming film helmed by none other than Japanese auteur Takashi Miike. Joining her is Milly Alcock, known for her role in Supergirl.

The as-yet-untitled slasher is scheduled to begin filming in Japan next month, according to Deadline. This project marks Miike's return to the genre that catapulted him to cult status with films like Audition and Ichi the Killer.

In the film, Charli will play Katie, who, during a visit to Kyoto, reunites with two old friends only to find herself possessed by a terrifying, violent spirit. The cast also includes Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead), Kiko Mizuhara (Attack On Titan), and Show Kasamatsu (Tokyo Vice).

On Sunday, Charli excitedly confirmed her involvement via X:

i am so honored to be working with takashi miike as a producer and an actor, literally a dream come true!!!! we met in 2024 and started coming up with ideas for a project… i cant wait to be immersed in his world ahhh!!!!! xxxx https://t.co/zvd903ovlU

This new role is a continuation of Charli's growing presence in the film industry.

Her satirical mockumentary, The Moment, set against the backdrop of Brat Summer, will be released in UK cinemas on February 20. Additionally, she created an original soundtrack for Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights, which is out on Friday (February 13).

She also stars in Julia Jackman’s period fantasy 100 Nights Of Hero, and has upcoming roles in the indie drama Erupcja and the satirical thriller Sacrifice.

Moreover, she will appear alongside Natalie Portman in The Gallerist and with Olivia Wilde in I Want Your Sex.

Last year, Charli expressed that she was "currently feeling more inspired by film than by music" after feeling creatively drained following her album ‘Brat‘.

She also recently appeared with Rachel Sennott in a Super Bowl ad for Poppi.
