Dua Lipa Slaps Samsung with $15 Million Lawsuit Over Unauthorized TV Ad Campaign
Dua Lipa is suing Samsung for $15 million, alleging the tech giant used her image without permission to promote their TVs. The lawsuit claims copyright infringement and violation of publicity rights.

Dua Lipa has filed a hefty $15 million lawsuit against Samsung, accusing the electronics behemoth of exploiting her image to boost TV sales. The claim alleges that Samsung used a photograph of Lipa on their TV packaging without consent or compensation, beginning last year.
According to a complaint filed in California on Friday (May 8), Lipa's legal team states that when the artist became aware of the unauthorized use, she demanded Samsung cease and desist. However, the company was allegedly "dismissive and callous" in their response, refusing to comply, according to Variety.
"Ms. Lipa’s face was prominently used for a mass marketing campaign for a consumer product without her knowledge, without consideration, and as to which she had no say, control, or input whatsoever," the lawsuit declares. "Ms. Lipa did not allow and would not have allowed this use."
The contentious photograph was reportedly taken backstage at the Austin City Limits Festival in 2024, with Lipa holding the copyright.
The lawsuit further argues that Samsung profited from the implied endorsement, capitalizing on Lipa's "premium brand" image and her highly selective approach to endorsements.

The legal documents include social media posts from consumers who indicated that Lipa's perceived endorsement influenced their purchase decisions.
One commenter allegedly wrote, "I wasn’t even planning on buying a tv but I saw the box so I decided to get it."
Another stated, "I’d get that TV just because Dua Lipa is on it. That’s how obsessed I am. That’s how much I love her."
Another user posted that to sell something, "Just put a picture of Dua Lipa on it."
The lawsuit encompasses claims of copyright violation, infringement of California's right of publicity statute, a federal Lanham Act claim, and trademark infringements.
Samsung has yet to release an official statement regarding the lawsuit.
In other news, Lipa recently curated the Southbank Centre’s 2026 London Literature Festival. Earlier this week, she made a surprise appearance at Tame Impala's headline gig at the O2 in London.
