After more than a decade out of the public eye, Welsh singer Duffy is poised for a significant return. The acclaimed artist has announced her first live performance in over 15 years, a "secret intimate gig" scheduled for July 5 in London.
Duffy shared the news via Instagram on Friday (June 6), expressing her excitement for this tentative step back into the spotlight. "I’m doing a secret intimate gig in London on the 5th July, next month, and I would love nothing more than for some of you to attend," she wrote on Instagram Stories.
The exclusive event will be a ballot-only affair due to its small capacity, with fans invited to apply through her social channels. Attendees can look forward to hearing new material, as Duffy confirmed, "I will sing some new songs."
This performance is a pivotal moment in Duffy's careful reemergence. Earlier this year, she teased fans with a black-and-white studio image captioned, "If only I could find the right words to explain how much I’ve missed you all. Working on coming back to you."
Further solidifying her return, Disney+ announced an upcoming Hulu Original documentary. This film will see Duffy share her full story for the first time, covering her upbringing in Wales, her meteoric rise in the early 2000s, her subsequent withdrawal from the industry, and the traumatic assault that prompted it.
Born Aimée Anne Duffy in Bangor, Wales, she shot to global fame in 2008 with her debut album, Rockferry. The record became the UK’s best-selling album of that year, earning her three BRIT Awards, a Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album, and an Ivor Novello Award.
The lead single, “Mercy,” was an undeniable hit, peaking at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2008 and dominating the UK Singles Chart for five consecutive weeks. Rockferry itself reached No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and remains certified five-times platinum in the UK.
Her second album, Endlessly, followed in 2010, after which Duffy largely stepped away from public life. Since then, she has released only two new songs: the 2020 ballad “River in the Sky” and the radio-only single “Something Beautiful.”
In 2020, Duffy broke her silence, revealing in an Instagram post and a detailed personal essay that she had been drugged, kidnapped, and raped in a foreign country. She described the ordeal as leaving her suicidal, an experience she kept hidden from "utterly no-one" until she chose to share her story. To date, no arrests have been publicly announced in connection with the case.
