Eagles' 'Their Greatest Hits' Soars to Historic 40x Platinum, 'Hotel California' Climbs to 28x Platinum

The Eagles continue their reign as one of music's most enduring acts. Their Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975 has officially been certified quadruple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), marking 40 million units moved since its release in 1976. This achievement solidifies its position as the RIAA's biggest album in terms of U.S. sales and streams.

The iconic greatest hits collection features songs from the band’s original lineup: Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon, Randy Meisner, and Don Felder. These tracks are drawn from their first four albums. The album dominated the Billboard 200 chart for five weeks in 1976 and has spent an impressive 514 weeks on the chart overall. Highlights include "Take It Easy," "Desperado," "Take It to the Limit," and their first Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit, "Best of My Love."

Adding to their accolades, Eagles' 1976 masterpiece, Hotel California, has been upgraded to 28 times platinum. This makes it the RIAA’s third-biggest album ever by U.S. sales and streams at 28 million units. Only Michael Jackson’s Thriller, at 34 times platinum, stands between the two Eagles projects. Hotel California held the top spot on the Billboard 200 for eight weeks in 1977 and features the chart-topping title track.

What’s next for the Eagles? Henley, Joe Walsh, and Timothy B. Schmit, along with Vince Gill and Glenn’s son Deacon Frey, are set to return to their Sphere residency. They will perform 12 more dates at the Las Vegas venue, extending their record as the act with the most dates ever played at Sphere, with a total of 56 announced concerts. Dates are scheduled through the end of March.

Following their Sphere residency, the Eagles will make their debut at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, headlining weekend 2 from April 23-May 3.

The RIAA awards quadruple diamond certification to artists whose albums have moved 40 million units. One equivalent album unit is defined as the sale of one physical album, 10 track downloads from the album, or 1,500 on-demand audio and/or video streams from the album.
