Eaux Claires Festival Returns After 8-Year Hiatus with a Mysteriously Named Act: Bon Dylan
After an eight-year absence, the Eaux Claires festival, curated by Justin Vernon, is making a comeback in Eau Claire, WI, featuring a diverse lineup and a puzzling act called 'Bon Dylan'.

After what seemed like an eternity, Eaux Claires, the brainchild of Bon Iver's Justin Vernon and The National's Aaron Dessner, is officially back. The festival, known for its unique and carefully curated lineups, will return to Vernon's hometown of Eau Claire, Wisconsin. After taking 2019 off, and facing pandemic-related cancellations in 2020, the festival is set to make its grand return after eight long years.
This year, Eaux Claires finds a new home at Eau Claire's Carson Park baseball stadium, scheduled for July 24-25. Surprisingly, Bon Iver isn't listed on the bill. However, a mysterious act called "Bon Dylan" has sparked considerable speculation. Is it Justin Vernon covering Bob Dylan? Or perhaps a collaboration? The mystery remains unsolved.
The lineup boasts a stylistically diverse array of artists, many of whom have previously collaborated with Justin Vernon, who is the sole curator this year. Notable names include Dijon, Lil Yachty, Kevin Morby, Daniel Caesar, Hotline TNT, Gully Boys, and the duo of Julianna Barwick and Mary Lattimore. Aimee Mann will perform her acclaimed 2000 album, Bachelor No. 2 Or, The Last Remains Of The Dodo, in its entirety.
The festival also promises unique acts rarely seen on other festival posters, such as Black Sabbath Cover Band Rehearsal, a tribute act featuring Angel Deradoorian, Greg Fox, Yeah Yeahs' Nick Zinner, Interpol's Brad Truax, and Krallice's Mick Barr. Additionally, Urban Classic Presents Revelation, a collective of Minneapolis musicians, will present "a retrospective of the Minneapolis sound."

New Orleans' vibrant music scene will be represented by funk/R&B group Jon Cleary & The Absolute Monster Gentlemen and zydeco group Nathan & The Zydeco Cha Chas. Phil Cook, a longtime collaborator of Justin Vernon, will perform with the Union, a band he recently produced. The Larry Goldings Trio, a jazz ensemble, will collaborate with bassist David Piltch and drummer Beth Goodfellow. Wisconsin-based acts like Bizhiki, Gash, and Monica Martin are also part of the lineup.
For the first time, Eaux Claires will host a group of Writers In Residence, featuring readings, discussions, and collaborations. The impressive list includes Michael Perry, Sheila Heti, Hala Alyan, Sean Thor Conroe, Kyle Seibel, Jon Mueller, Nicholas Gulig, Harold Rogers, Mike Nagel, Benjamin Percy, Nishant Jain, Mustafa, Safia Elhillo, Patrycja Humienik, Brent Schoonover, Gabrielle Calvocoressi, Brenda Cárdenas, Katie Ka Vang, Adam Voith, Avery Gregurich, Donika Kelly, and Amanda Petrusich. Justin Vernon has also promised "fair activities and added fun across Carson Park," with additional events planned around the festival dates.
