FKA twigs to Star as Josephine Baker in Upcoming Biopic
FKA twigs is set to portray the legendary Josephine Baker in a new biopic directed by Maïmouna Doucouré, with filming scheduled to begin this fall.
FKA twigs will embody Josephine Baker—the iconic Franco-American dancer, singer, actress, and activist—in an upcoming biopic directed by French filmmaker Maïmouna Doucouré, Deadline reports. The film, initially announced in 2022, is slated to commence shooting this fall.
Twigs shared her admiration in a statement: “Josephine Baker’s extraordinary legacy is such an inspiration to me and to so many people around the world. She lives on in our hearts as a visionary, ground-breaking woman whose story is as powerful as it is relevant today.”
Notably, a television series about Baker from A24, starring Janelle Monaé, was announced in 2022 but did not materialize. Twigs recently contributed the original song “My Mouth Is Lonely for You” to Anne Hathaway’s forthcoming pop star psychodrama Mother Mary. Furthermore, she is set to appear alongside Chloë Sevigny, Sturgill Simpson and Bonnie “Prince” Billy in The Lonely Woman, a feature film directed by Boy Harsher.
