The digital resurrection of Tupac Shakur continues to captivate, with the latest news placing the iconic rapper in a forthcoming action-adventure game from SEGA of America and RGG Studio. Revealed at the bustling Summer Game Fest in LA, the game, Stranger Than Heaven, is set to drop on January 15, 2027.
RGG Studio Head Masayoshi Yokoyama confirmed the release date and the intriguing addition of Tupac Shakur to the game's roster. His character, aptly named Amaru, is a powerful nod to his legacy, with his likeness meticulously crafted from archival footage and photographs.
Crucially, RGG Studio emphasized that no AI was involved in creating Tupac's in-game presence. This decision, made in collaboration with his estate, Amaru Entertainment, underscores a profound respect for the artist's enduring impact and artistic integrity.
The game's cast is a veritable who's who, featuring none other than Snoop Dogg and his son, Cordell Broadus. Snoop Dogg isn't just lending his voice; he's also collaborating on the official theme song alongside Satoshi Fujihara, Ado, and Tori Kelly, all of whom will also portray characters within the game.
Rounding out the impressive ensemble are seasoned actors Takashi Ukaji, Yasukaze Motomiya, Takaya Kuroda, and Kohei Tsuji, promising a rich narrative experience.
This isn't the first time technology has brought Tupac back to the forefront of cultural consciousness. Fans will recall the groundbreaking 2012 Coachella performance, where a stunning hologram of Tupac joined Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg onstage, blurring the lines between the living and the legendary.
Stranger Than Heaven itself promises a gripping crime thriller. Spanning fifty years, the game is described by SEGA as a "saga of men with nowhere to go and their desperate struggle to find a home." Players will navigate modern Japan across five distinct eras and cities, utilizing "extreme violence to survive, and musical talent to thrive as a showman."
