Gnarls Barkley's 'Atlanta': A Farewell Album 18 Years in the Making
After an 18-year hiatus, Gnarls Barkley returns with 'Atlanta,' a genre-bending album described as both a new beginning and the duo's final chapter.

It's been a long time coming. Eighteen years, to be precise. Today marks the release of Atlanta (via 10k/Atlantic Records), signaling a long-awaited, yet brief, return for Gnarls Barkley.
The multi-Grammy Award-winning duo, comprised of CeeLo Green, the soulful vocalist, and Danger Mouse, the acclaimed producer, unveils Atlanta, their third studio album and the successor to 2008’s The Odd Couple.
Produced by Danger Mouse and co-written with CeeLo, Atlanta is reportedly Gnarls Barkley's final album.
Atlanta includes the previously-released single “Pictures,” among its 13 tracks. The album defies categorization, blending gospel with R&B production, and elements of pop, hip-hop, and timeless musicality.
Gnarls Barkley burst onto the scene with 2006’s St. Elsewhere, featuring the hit “Crazy,” which reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the U.K. Singles Chart for nine weeks. St. Elsewhere peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the U.K. Albums Chart.
Their follow-up, The Odd Couple, peaked at No. 12 on the U.S. albums chart and included the track “Going On,” which reached No. 88 on the national singles chart.
The Atlanta natives had always planned to record a third album, but life intervened. They reconnected last year to record this final chapter.
During the break, Green released four solo albums, including 2010's The Lady Killer, featuring “Forget You,” and two albums with Goodie Mob. He also appeared as a judge on The Voice.
Danger Mouse (born Brian Joseph Burton) produced albums for Beck, Sparklehorse, U2, The Black Keys, Norah Jones, Portugal. The Man, A$AP Rocky, and others. He also released three albums as Broken Bells with The Shins’ James Mercer.
“Life is a movie. Thoughts are theater, emotions are entertainment, and songs are cinema,” says Green about Atlanta. “Gnarls is the narrator… a noun even a person, place, and thing with main character energy to match. Welcome to Atlanta. Smile for the pictures.”
