Greg Prata Ascends to CFO at Sony Music Publishing Amidst Revenue Surge

Sony Music Publishing has announced the promotion of Greg Prata to Chief Financial Officer, effective March 31.

Based in New York, Prata will report directly to SMP Chairman and CEO Jon Platt. He is taking over the role from Tom Kelly, who retires after an impressive 35-year career.

In his new role, Prata will be responsible for overseeing SMP's global financial operations. This includes reporting, accounting, budgeting, administration, and IT.

Prata's journey with Sony began in 2012 when he joined as Senior Vice President of Financial Planning and Analysis, following a stint at EMI. In 2019, he was elevated to EVP of Finance and Corporate Strategy. His professional background includes over a decade in private equity and investment banking.

Prata expressed his enthusiasm for the new role, stating, "I’m honored to step into this role at such an exciting time in the company’s evolution." He thanked Platt for his support and Kelly for his mentorship, adding, "I look forward to working closely with the entire team as we continue to develop our capabilities and generate opportunities for SMP songwriters."

Platt lauded Prata as a "trusted leader" and expressed his pleasure in seeing him assume the CFO position during this phase of growth. He also acknowledged Kelly's extensive contributions, noting that his leadership "set a high bar for excellence."

Kelly has held the position of global CFO since 2019. Before that, he held senior finance roles at both Sony/ATV and EMI Music Publishing, where his career began in 1991.

This transition occurs during a period of significant growth for Sony Music Group, which recently reported double-digit quarterly revenue growth and a 14% increase in publishing revenue. SMP has also consistently topped Billboard’s publisher rankings for the past three quarters.
