Following his role as Bowser in The Super Mario Bros. Movie and his upcoming appearance in A Minecraft Movie, Jack Black is looking toward his next video game adaptation: the Yakuza series.

Jack Black has voiced his interest in starring in a live-action adaptation of the crime beat 'em up series Yakuza. "I’m going to throw my hat in that ring,” Black told Screenrant. “I don’t know if there [are] any parts for me, like a portly American, but talk to me. Sega, give me a jingle.”

Amazon Prime Video previously released a live-action adaptation of Yakuza in 2024, but Like A Dragon: Yakuza received mixed reviews, and a second season was not commissioned. A film adaptation has not been confirmed.

The original Yakuza game, heavily influenced by Japanese yakuza films, has spawned over 20 sequels, spin-offs, and remakes. The most recent installment, Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii, was released in February of last year.

The series has included parodies of celebrities such as Michael Jackson (Miracle Johnson), Lady Gaga (Daddy Papa), and Steven Spielberg (Stephen Spining). In 2024, Sega reportedly surveyed fans about which celebrities they would like to see in future Yakuza games, with Jack Black appearing on the shortlist alongside Billie Eilish, Dr. Dre, Keanu Reeves, Eminem, and Ozzy Osbourne.

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s next major release is time-hopping adventure game Stranger Than Heaven, which will reportedly feature Snoop Dogg.

Meanwhile, Jack Black is set to return for A Minecraft Movie sequel alongside Danielle Brooks (Dawn), Matt Berry (Villager), Jennifer Coolidge (Marlene) and Jason Momoa (Garrett ‘The Garbage Man’ Garrison). Kirsten Dunst was recently confirmed to be playing Alex in The Minecraft Movie sequel after joking about wanting to do projects that paid “piles of cash” while Ariana Grande fans believe she’s been cast in the film after following Black on Instagram.

In other news, a remake of The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time and a brand new Star Fox game are set to come to Nintendo Switch 2 this year, according to a new report.
