Jack White Blasts Trump's Signature on Currency: 'TSA Agents Are Selling Plasma to Pay Rent'
Jack White criticizes Donald Trump's plan to add his signature to U.S. currency, highlighting economic struggles faced by Americans.

Jack White has taken aim at the U.S. Treasury Department’s decision to include President Donald Trump's signature on new U.S. paper currency.
He has decried the move as a symbol of vanity during a time of economic hardship for many Americans.
In a scathing Instagram post on Friday, March 27th, White sarcastically commented on the announcement, questioning why Trump's face wasn't also being added to the hundred-dollar bill.
Traditionally, U.S. currency features the signatures of the Treasury Secretary and the Treasurer. Trump's addition would mark the first instance of a sitting president's signature on paper currency.
White connected this move to broader economic issues affecting everyday Americans, citing rising gas prices linked to Trump’s military actions against Iran, which began on February 28th.
He wrote, "TSA agents are selling plasma to pay rent while he takes the day off, cheats at golf, and bombs other countries for fun."
He added, "Gas prices are surging as a worldwide crisis that HE caused rages in the Middle East; it’s the perfect time to joke on fox ‘news’, visit Graceland, and sign into law to have your bloated, cocky signature on all U.S. currency!"
White also criticized what he sees as inaction from Congress, describing Trump as "a manipulative, loophole finding, egomaniacal, conman" who has been given unchecked power.
He questioned the oversight of Trump’s commercial ventures, including branded Bibles, sneakers, and commemorative coins.
"I’m sure Congress is regulating all that though and not just letting him break the law and profit from his office," he sarcastically wrote. "We’re in good hands."
White concluded his post by suggesting, while acknowledging the legal implications, that Americans might consider defacing Trump’s signature on new banknotes, using the hashtag #redactedbanknotes.
"Wouldn’t it be funny if someone started a campaign to black magic marker line out his name every time you receive a new banknote?" he wrote. "I think that’s against the law to deface U.S. currency, so I would never suggest that becoming a nationwide campaign…but is everyone allowed to break the law when they feel like it or just donnie?"
This isn't the first time White has publicly criticized the Trump administration. Last month, he condemned the president’s declaration of war against Iran on social media.
White is renowned in rock music. As the co-founder of The White Stripes, he was pivotal in the garage rock revival of the early 2000s. Their hit "Seven Nation Army" topped the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart and won a Grammy in 2004. Albums like Elephant (2003) and Icky Thump (2007) both reached the top 10 on the Billboard 200. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the White Stripes in 2025.
