Karol G to Receive International Artist Award of Excellence at the American Music Awards
Colombian reggaeton sensation Karol G will be honored with the International Artist Award of Excellence at the upcoming American Music Awards. She will also perform at the event.
The 52nd American Music Awards will bestow the International Artist Award of Excellence upon Karol G. This prestigious accolade, last awarded to Whitney Houston in 2009, recognizes artists with a monumental global impact on music and culture.
The Colombian star is also slated to perform at this year's ceremony, where she has received three nominations, including Best Latin Album, Best Latin Song (“Latina Foreva”), and Best Female Latin Artist.
Executive producers Barry Adelman and Alexi Mazareas of Dick Clark Productions stated, “Karol G has redefined what it means to be a global artist. Her authenticity, groundbreaking achievements, and powerful connection with fans worldwide have elevated Latin music to unprecedented heights.”
Her 2023 album, Mañana Será Bonito, made history as the first Spanish-language album by a woman to top the Billboard 200. Her 2025 follow-up, Tropicoqueta, reached Number Three. Karol G's headlining performance at Coachella was another milestone, marking the first time a Latina headlined the festival. The performance featured cameos from Latin stars like Becky G, J Balvin, Ryan Castro, and Peso Pluma. Following Coachella, she announced the Viajando Por El Mundo Tropitour, set to span the globe from this summer through next July.

Karol G's fifth studio album, Tropicoqueta, released last June via Bichota/Interscope, earned a nomination for Best Latin Pop Album at the 2026 Grammy Awards. In 2025, Rolling Stone recognized her as one of the Voices of the Year. Rumors suggest that Karol G may feature on Drake’s upcoming album, Iceman.
The 2026 American Music Awards will be broadcast on Monday, May 25, at 8:00 p.m. ET on CBS/Paramount+, hosted by Queen Latifah. Performances will include Katseye, Maluma, Sombr, Teyana Taylor, and others.
