Police in Melbourne, Australia, have launched an investigation into allegations of sexual assault made against Katy Perry by Ruby Rose. The claims, which Rose initially made on social media, pertain to an alleged incident that occurred 16 years ago.
Authorities confirmed that detectives from the sexual offenses and child abuse investigation team are “investigating a historical sexual assault that occurred in Melbourne in 2010.” The alleged incident reportedly took place at a licensed premise in Melbourne's CBD.
Perry's representatives have vehemently denied the accusations, calling them “dangerous, reckless lies.” They also pointed to Rose’s “well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals.”
Rose initially shared her accusations on Threads, stating, “Katy Perry sexual assaulted me at spice market nightclub in Melbourne. Who gives a s–t what she thinks.” She described the alleged assault in detail and explained that she had previously framed it as a “funny little drunk story” due to not knowing how to handle the situation.
Rose later informed her followers that she would be visiting a police station to explore the possibility of an investigation. She acknowledged that the statute of limitations may have passed but emphasized the importance of trying.
In a subsequent update, Rose stated that she had finalized all of her reports and would refrain from further public comments on the matter, as requested by the police. She expressed relief and indicated her intention to begin the healing process.
