Lip Critic Announce New Album 'Theft World' Following Identity Theft Saga
Hardcore band Lip Critic are releasing their third album, Theft World, on May 1 via Partisan Records, inspired by a bizarre encounter with a fan who stole frontman Bret Kaser's identity. The band has also shared a new single, "Legs in a Snare,"...

The new album Theft World promises to be a wild ride, born from an unbelievably strange real-life event. Lip Critic's frontman, Bret Kaser, became a victim of identity theft, which led the band down a rabbit hole they never expected.
The culprit? A young, dedicated fan who believed Lip Critic's discography contained hidden codes within the songs, forming a complex scavenger hunt. He used Kaser’s stolen social security number to purchase multiple copies of their albums, hoping to unlock the secrets he was convinced were there.
Instead of pressing charges, Lip Critic took a different approach. Intrigued, they invited the fan to elaborate on his theories, recording his explanations of the intricate world he believed was woven into their music. These recordings became the foundation for Theft World, a 12-song collection populated with the fan's imagined characters and surreal landscapes.
"Theft World is an ode to the power and pervasiveness of stealing,” the band stated in a press release. “It’s about taking something ugly and using it to make something cute. It’s about eating an absurd world and falling in love with it as you digest.”
To celebrate the release, Lip Critic will embark on a North American tour, kicking off on February 19. See the dates below.
