Lizzo's 'BITCH' Album Sparking Controversy, Appears to Address Nicki Minaj Beef

Four years after her last full-length project, Lizzo dropped her highly anticipated album, BITCH, this past Friday. However, the conversation quickly shifted to an alternate edition of the LP's title track, which seems to take direct aim at none other than Nicki Minaj.

In a move that quickly went viral, Lizzo reposted a screenshot of a tweet allegedly from the Queens rapper. The original post reportedly mocked Lizzo's weight loss journey and upcoming album, stating, "Fat Lizzo lost 300 lbs just to sell 300 albums. So now she has loose skin AND a flop album, AND a weird charge. Sheesh."

This cutting remark, reportedly accompanied by an image of a Chucky doll, became the backdrop for Lizzo's musical retort. She overlaid the audio of her remixed track onto the screenshot, adding the pointed caption, "Since I’m blocked."

The lyrics themselves leave little room for ambiguity:

"Used to be the biggest fan, then I lost weight/ Wait, wait, let me fixate,"
"Paid to keep the peace, I don’t even like beef/ Crazy thing is you knew me you would like/ I’m praying for our sisters, I want to see us all in our bag."

As of press time, the "Super Bass" rapper has yet to issue a public response to Lizzo's track.

BITCH marks Lizzo's first full-length offering since 2022's Special, an album that spawned the Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper "About Damn Time." The new album's provocative title is itself a statement, as Lizzo explained in a recent press release.

"Reclaiming the word ‘bi—’ is power. It’s taking a label once used to diminish women and turning it into a declaration of confidence and unapologetic self-love," the "Truth Hurts" artist shared. She further cited other influential women in music, like Meredith Brooks and Missy Elliott, who have embraced the word for positive messaging. "It was only fitting to name my album BITCH because it has become my favorite word when using it on my own terms, and because I am 100% that bi—!"

Billboard has reportedly reached out to representatives for Minaj for comment on the unfolding situation.
