Madonna's Bold Demand: "Put Your F*cking Phones Down" at Live Shows

Pop icon Madonna has delivered a candid message to her fans and the wider live music community: put down your phones. The Queen of Pop is preparing for the July 3 release of 'Confessions II', her 15th studio record and a spiritual successor to 2005’s seminal 'Confessions On A Dance Floor'.

In the lead-up to the album, Madonna has been highly visible, including an impromptu set in New York's Times Square and a surprise appearance during Sabrina Carpenter's headlining slot at Coachella.

It's these recent experiences that have fueled her latest plea. Following the premiere of Confessions II – The Film this week, Madonna participated in a Q&A session, addressing what she perceives as a "persistent need" to document everything.

"I came to this earth to be a doer, not a watcher," she told the audience, as reported by Variety.

Recalling her collaborative set with Sabrina Carpenter, where they debuted their duet ‘Bring Your Love’, Madonna expressed a bittersweet sentiment. While she enjoyed the performance, she lamented that the "deep tribal experience" of dancing together was diminished by a "sea of phones instead of faces."

Her parting words were direct and unequivocal: "Put your f*cking phones down and connect."

So far, three tracks from the upcoming album have been shared: ‘I Feel So Free’, ‘Bring Your Love’ (featuring Sabrina Carpenter), and ‘Love Sensation’.

'Confessions II' marks Madonna's first album since 2019's 'Madame X'. For this new project, she has reunited with Stuart Price, the acclaimed producer behind 'Confessions On A Dance Floor', signaling a return to her dance-pop roots.

"When Stuart Price and I first started working on this record, this was our manifesto: We must dance, celebrate, and pray with our bodies," Madonna explained.

She further elaborated on the philosophy behind the album: "To rave is an art. It’s about pushing your limits and connecting to a community of like-minded people. Sound, light, and vibration reshape our perceptions, pulling us into a trance-like state. The repetition of the bass, we don’t just hear it but we feel it. Altering our consciousness and dissolving ego and time."

Album buzz has also been amplified by other industry figures. Kylie Minogue recently addressed rumors of a potential collaboration on 'Confessions II', while Linda Perry expressed a desire to produce for Madonna, though controversially describing her recent music as "weak" and "trying to compete with Charli XCX."

Beyond the album, Madonna is set to co-headline the first ever FIFA World Cup halftime show, sharing the stage with fellow global superstars Shakira and BTS.
