Manchester Orchestra Mourns the Loss of Drummer Tim Very
Tim Very, the longtime drummer for Manchester Orchestra, has passed away at the age of 42. The band shared a heartfelt message on social media, celebrating his life and legacy.

Manchester Orchestra is grieving the loss of their drummer, Tim Very, who passed away at the age of 42. The Atlanta-based rock band announced the news on social media on Saturday, February 14th, expressing their disbelief and sorrow. The cause of death has not been revealed.
Growing up in Pensacola, Florida, Very was inspired by Dave Grohl and learned to play drums to Nirvana songs. He shared his late start in drumming in a 2022 interview on the Drummers On Drumming podcast: “I wasn’t one of those guys that got to start playing when I was like six years old, got lessons out the gate,”
Very joined Manchester Orchestra in 2011, succeeding Jeremiah Edmond. His debut performance with the band took place in London during the UK leg of their Simple Math tour. He later told Alter The Press that playing with the band was "the best", calling it what he always wanted to do.
As Manchester Orchestra’s longest-serving drummer, Very contributed to three studio albums: 2014’s Cope, 2017’s A Black Mile to the Surface, and 2021’s The Million Masks of God. He also participated in the band's recent EP, The Valley of Vision, released in 2023. A live album, Union Chapel (London, England), is slated for release this March. Beyond Manchester Orchestra, Very was also a session musician, producer, and co-founder of Super Canoe, a production company based in Georgia.
"Tim was instantly likable and interacted with everyone he met with kindness and warmth. His laugh was infectious and he immediately made people feel invited and encouraged," said Andy Hull, Robert McDowell, and Andy Price of Manchester Orchestra in a statement. "He had an undeniable light that was only matched by his dedication and love for the craft that he was clearly put on earth to do. No words can ever do him justice. Please know, if you are someone who loved Tim, he loved you too."
The entire Manchester Orchestra family has been devastated by the sudden passing of our brother, Timothy Very. The most beloved human being any of us were lucky enough to know in this life. We’ve all been dreading sharing this news as we are all still in absolute disbelief.
Tim was instantly likable and interacted with everyone he met with kindness and warmth. His laugh was infectious and he immediately made people feel invited and encouraged. His humor and energy were the very foundation that held together the entire MO universe. Strangers quickly became friends and friends became family.
He had an undeniable light that was only matched by his dedication and love for the craft that he was clearly put on earth to do. No words can ever do him justice. Please know, if you are someone who loved Tim, he loved you too.
The only thing that Tim loved more than creating music was being with his family. You’d be pressed to find a more joyful dad.
We love you Tim, thank you for loving us. You are a force of positivity that will be a constant presence in the rest of our days.
