M.I.A. Drops Surprise Album 'M.I.7', Recorded Across Seven Countries
M.I.A. surprises fans with her seventh studio album, 'M.I.7,' a globally-inspired project recorded in seven countries, featuring the American gospel group Sunday Service.

M.I.A. has unleashed her seventh studio LP, M.I.7, via her own OHMNIMUSIC label. This globally ambitious album features seven tracks conceived and recorded across seven distinct locations, with each location hosting a seven-day creative sprint. The project also includes contributions from the American gospel group Sunday Service.
M.I.7 took shape in diverse locales, including Ethiopia, Egypt, India, the United Kingdom, Greece, Australia, and even Rick Rubin’s Shangri La Studio in the U.S. The album's structure is inspired by the seven trumpets from the Book of Revelation, with each track embodying a biblical judgment before transitioning to the next.
M.I.A. Album Art
According to a press release, the concept for M.I.7 "emerged as a vision that revealed itself before the recording process began, which demanded to be followed.” The album features the previously-released single, “Everything.”
M.I.A.’s previous album, MATA, was released in 2022. Rolling Stone noted, “Her sixth studio album grasps for the past and, in other ways, wiggles right back into the zeitgeist.… Yes, M.I.A. is still here, but it’s unclear whether she has anything new to say.”
M.I.A. is scheduled to join Kid Cudi on his Rebel Ragers Tour across North America from April 28 to June 27. The tour will commence in Phoenix at Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre and conclude in Chula Vista, California, at North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre.
Last weekend, M.I.A. joined Diplo on stage at Coachella to perform her iconic track “Paper Planes,” originally featured on her 2007 album, Kala.
