Morgan Wallen Smashes Piano in Denver After Technical Issues, Sparks Billy Joel Comparisons

Morgan Wallen faced a frustrating situation during his 'Still the Problem tour' stop in Denver, leading to some onstage destruction.

On Friday night (May 29), the country singer was nearing the end of his show at Empower Field at Mile High Stadium when the incident occurred. He began his encore with 'Sand in My Boots,' a ballad known for its sing-along quality.

However, Wallen apparently couldn't hear the piano as he played. Fan-captured footage shows him abruptly standing up mid-performance, finishing the song a cappella, and then returning to the piano, which he proceeded to push over.

He concluded the show with 'Last Night' and 'Whiskey Glasses'. The moment has drawn comparisons to Billy Joel's famous keyboard flip during a 1987 concert in Moscow.

This incident comes after Wallen recently admitted he hadn't been to a bar in over a year, following his arrest for throwing a chair off a rooftop bar in Nashville. He was charged with three counts of reckless endangerment and one count of disorderly conduct.

The chair landed near police officers standing in front of Chief’s bar on Broadway, according to the arrest report.

In December 2024, he pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors for reckless endangerment without a weapon. His sentence included a week in a DUI education center and two years of supervised probation. Wallen subsequently apologized, stating, “I’m not proud of my behaviour, and I accept responsibility.”

He later revealed his abstention from bars, stating, "It’s definitely the best thing for me...I ain’t been in a bar since the last time I was in a bar that everybody knows about."

Earlier this year, the star also attracted attention for abruptly walking off Saturday Night Live after greeting guest host Mikey Madison.

Shortly after, Wallen posted an Instagram Story with a picture of his private jet and the caption “Get me to God’s country”.

The SNL incident is one in a series of controversies for the singer. In 2021, footage surfaced of him using a racial slur, leading to his removal from radio stations and his record label, Big Loud.

Despite the backlash, sales for his album 'Dangerous' surged, and Wallen held the Number One spot on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart for a record-breaking ten weeks. He later stated he was “embarrassed and sorry” for his actions and asked fans not to defend him.
