Neil Diamond's 'Wild At Heart': Unearthing a Lost Chapter with Rick Rubin
A lost album from Neil Diamond's collaboration with Rick Rubin, 'Wild At Heart,' is finally seeing the light of day, completing their trilogy of work. Recorded during the 'Home Before Dark' sessions, these tracks offer a unique glimpse into D...

The upcoming film Song Sung Blue, starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, tells the improbable story of a Neil Diamond tribute band's rise to fame in the '90s, even sharing the stage with Eddie Vedder at a Pearl Jam concert. Perhaps this is why the timing is right for another Neil Diamond/Gen X convergence from the archives.
In the 2000s, Diamond released two albums produced by Rick Rubin: 2005's 12 Songs and 2008's Home Before Dark. The latter marked Diamond's first #1 album. This era coincided with Rubin's stark, late-career recordings for Johnny Cash, and he brought a similar stripped-down aesthetic to Diamond's records, albeit without the same looming sense of mortality.
While two LPs were released, a third album's worth of material remained shelved. Now, these songs from his 2007 album Wild At Heart, recorded during the Home Before Dark sessions, are finally being released. These aren't being billed as mere outtakes but as the concluding chapter of an album trilogy. "My work with Rick was a labor of love," Diamond states, "and I’m so gratified that these songs will finally be set free into the world to complete our trilogy of work."
Set to drop in May, Wild At Heart features nine previously unreleased tracks along with an alternate version of the Home After Dark song "Forgotten." Listen to the title track and watch the album trailer below.
