Netflix to Revisit Michael Jackson's 2005 Trial in New Docuseries
Netflix is set to release a three-part docuseries, Michael Jackson: The Verdict, examining Michael Jackson's 2005 child sex abuse trial, featuring new interviews with jurors and observers.

The controversial 2005 child sex abuse trial of Michael Jackson is being revisited in a new three-part docuseries, Michael Jackson: The Verdict, premiering on Netflix on June 3. The series promises fresh perspectives through interviews with courtroom eyewitnesses, including jurors and media observers, offering a detailed recap of the highly publicized case that spanned over four months.
The People v. Jackson trial, which took place in Santa Maria, California, marked the only instance where Jackson directly contested allegations that had shadowed him for over a decade. The prosecution heavily relied on the testimony of Gavin Arvizo, a young cancer patient, whose experiences with Jackson were previously highlighted in Martin Bashir's explosive 2003 documentary, Living With Michael Jackson. A guilty verdict could have resulted in a 20-year prison sentence for Jackson.
In May 2005, Jackson was acquitted on all seven counts of child molestation and both counts of providing a minor with intoxicating liquor. However, in the years following his death, numerous individuals came forward with similar allegations, notably James Safechuck and Wade Robson, who were central figures in the 2019 documentary Leaving Neverland. Both men continue to pursue claims against Jackson's company, MJJ Productions. Adding to the complex narrative, this year saw five siblings who were raised within Jackson's inner circle filing a lawsuit against his estate, alleging grooming during their childhood. These allegations were conspicuously absent from the recent and contentious biopic, Michael.
