New Found Glory's Chad Gilbert Battles Back After Brain Tumor Surgery
New Found Glory guitarist Chad Gilbert recently underwent surgery to remove three brain tumors, sharing his journey and recovery with fans.
Chad Gilbert, guitarist for the pop-punk band New Found Glory, has revealed he underwent surgery last month to remove three tumors from his brain.
In an emotional Instagram post on Monday, Gilbert shared details of his health journey, stating that while his “recovery has been bumpy at times,” he’s “feeling much better now and getting stronger by the day.”
Back in February, Gilbert noticed issues while performing in Nashville. He said he was “struggling to control the movements” of his left hand, and his left leg “was getting weaker,” causing him to stumble. A subsequent CT scan revealed the three tumors.
Gilbert, who has faced previous health challenges, underwent surgery on February 27th and has been recovering in the hospital. Quoting his radiation oncologist, he shared a message of hope: “This is not a fatal blow and not the end of your story, just the beginning of a new chapter.”
He expressed gratitude to those who have supported him and his family during this challenging time. “Thankful to everyone who’s checked in on me and helped my family during this lengthy and challenging journey. Can’t use my phone much yet and have a lot of messages to catch up on. More stories to come when my brain is working well again. Love you all and am looking forward to sharing more music and fun with you as we come out of this.”
Gilbert has faced cancer scares in the past. In the early 2010s, part of his thyroid was removed after doctors found suspicious cells. In 2021, he was diagnosed with metastatic pheochromocytoma, a rare form of adrenal gland cancer that spread to his spine and lungs.
In 2022, he announced he was cancer-free after undergoing multiple surgeries. However, he later underwent another surgery to remove a tumor in his spine. Last year, Gilbert revealed he was undergoing a new round of radiation treatments after doctors found a “small spot” in his back.
