Noah Kahan has gifted fans with a new single, “Porch Light,” a deeply personal offering from his highly anticipated album, The Great Divide, slated for release on April 24 via Mercury Records.

“Porch Light” is a collaborative effort, penned by Kahan alongside the acclaimed producer Aaron Dessner during their inaugural session. The track's production is credited to Kahan, Dessner, and Gabe Simon, with recording taking place at Dessner’s Long Pond Studio in Hudson, New York, and Gold Pacific Studios in Nashville.

According to a press release, the song delves into the emotional burden Kahan felt he placed on his family after opening up their lives through his previous album, Stick Season. The lyrics are delivered from his mother’s perspective, with lines like: “I hope you tell me that you’re winding down/ That you’ve lost the taste to face the crowd/ That whatever made you famous made you sick/ That you can only do what pain allows/ It ain’t up to you to make it out/ And there ain’t no shame in callin’ this thing quits.”

Kahan embarked on a creative journey to write and record The Great Divide across diverse locations, including “next to a piano in Nashville, next to a pond in Guilford, Vermont, in a legendary studio in upstate New York, on a farm with a firetower in Only, Tennessee.” This album follows his critically acclaimed Stick Season, which dropped in 2022 and garnered him a Best New Artist nomination at the 2024 Grammy Awards. The title track, “The Great Divide,” was released in January.

Kahan is set to embark on a tour this summer in support of the new album. The 30-date tour commences with consecutive nights on June 11 and 12 in Orlando, followed by performances in Philadelphia, Toronto, Boston, Chicago, New York, Washington DC, Los Angeles, Vancouver, and concludes on Aug. 31 in Seattle. Gigi Perez will provide support on all dates, with Annabelle Dinda joining for the majority of the shows. The tour includes four record-breaking performances at Boston’s Fenway Park.

Before the album's release, Kahan will premiere his documentary, Noah Kahan: Out of Body, on March 16 at SXSW, later arriving on Netflix.
