In a move that sent ripples through the music world, Olivia Rodrigo offered a live preview of “What’s Wrong With Me,” a highly anticipated duet with The Cure’s legendary frontman, Robert Smith. The song, featured on the second act of her forthcoming album You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, was unveiled at Primavera Sound 2026, just hours after Rodrigo made a surprise announcement of her Saturday night set in Barcelona, Spain.
Positioned as track 10, “What’s Wrong With Me” delves into the more melancholic side of her new LP’s narrative. Notably, it marks the first time Rodrigo has featured another artist on an album track, a significant milestone in her burgeoning career.
Addressing the crowd at Parc del Forum’s Occident Stage, Rodrigo shared her excitement: “I can’t believe this song exists with the person that it exists with. I’m just so f—ing over the moon.” Following the powerful duet, a visibly emotional Rodrigo, after embracing her musical hero and now collaborator, confessed, “I feel like I’m gonna cry… I can’t believe that that’s a thing that happened in the real world and not just a figment of my imagination.”
The lyrics of “What’s Wrong With Me” paint a vivid picture of internal turmoil, with Rodrigo singing, “I’m not feeling like myself, and nothing ever seems to help.” The pre-chorus builds to a poignant climax: “Went to the doctor and she said I was fine/ But every movie that I’ve seen makes me cry/ It’s like somebody put a weight on my chest/ I should talk to a friend, but I can’t get out of bed/ My head is spinning and my stomach is sick/ Say I’m in love, so it’s hard to admit/ I can’t eat, I can’t sleep/ I think you’re what’s wrong with me.”
Robert Smith joins in verse two, echoing Rodrigo’s introspective musings with his signature depth: “Head just keeps on pounding with the simple thought/ ‘What if this isn’t what I want?’” Their vocals then intertwine, layering over the chorus, bridge, and outro, creating a hauntingly beautiful harmony.
You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love is set for release on Friday, June 12, via Geffen Records, an album that promises to be a profound exploration of love and sadness.
Rodrigo’s appearance at Primavera Sound was a true surprise, announced via a quick Instagram Story earlier that Saturday. While she confirmed her 10:25 p.m. local time set, the collaboration with Smith remained a closely guarded secret until showtime. “Surprise!!!” she captioned a snapshot from the festival grounds, adding, “See you tonight primavera_sound… I’m excited.”
This isn't the first time the two artists have graced a stage together. Last year, they shared an unforgettable moment at Glastonbury, performing The Cure’s beloved tracks “Friday I’m In Love” and “Just Like Heaven.” Rodrigo's admiration for Smith runs deep, even playfully incorporating the title of “Just Like Heaven” into the opening verse of “Drop Dead,” the lead track from her new album, which itself soared to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The surprise set at Primavera Sound comes months ahead of Rodrigo’s sold-out Unraveled Tour, kicking off in September in Hartford, Conn. The tour, supporting her third studio album, will traverse North America and Europe. Its name, “Unraveled,” is a nod to a lyric from her latest single, “The Cure,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart and No. 5 on the Hot 100.
Beyond the premiere of “What’s Wrong With Me,” Rodrigo’s Primavera Sound performance captivated the audience with recent singles like “Drop Dead” and “The Cure,” alongside fan favorites from her earlier albums, Sour and Guts.
Saturday marked the third day of Primavera Sound, which had faced severe weather conditions on its opening night, leading to the cancellation of performances by artists such as Doja Cat and Massive Attack. However, the festival quickly recovered, with day two seeing successful sets from The Cure, Skrillex, PinkPantheress, and many others, setting the stage for Rodrigo and Smith’s unexpected triumph.
