P!nk, Megan Thee Stallion Ignite Tony Awards with "Lady Marmalade" Extravaganza
The Tony Awards opened with a show-stopping rendition of "Lady Marmalade" featuring host P!nk and a surprise appearance by Megan Thee Stallion, alongside Broadway stars like Lea Michele and Dylan Mulvaney.

The Tony Awards kicked off with an explosive, star-studded performance of "Lady Marmalade," led by host P!nk. The iconic 2001 track, famously from the film Moulin Rouge, set a vibrant tone for the evening.
Adding to the excitement, P!nk was joined by Megan Thee Stallion, whose recent, early exit from the Broadway production of Moulin Rouge! The Musical had garnered headlines.
Held at the illustrious Radio City Music Hall, the annual theater awards show began with P!nk appearing on wires as Peter Pan. However, former Tonys host Neil Patrick Harris quickly intervened, suggesting a more 'Broadway' opening.
"I'm worried some people will wonder why P!nk is hosting the Tonys," she quipped. "I just want to make sure everyone knows I'm thrilled to be here and I want my opener to be as 'Broadway' as possible."
True to her word, P!nk launched into a dynamic rendition of "Lady Marmalade." She was backed by a cadre of Broadway talent, including Dylan Mulvaney and Shoshana Bean.
The lyrics were cleverly reworked to acknowledge attendees like Lesley Manville, Rose Byrne, and Carrie Coon. Lea Michele made a memorable cameo, belting out, "We don't do it for the awards," while veteran actress June Squibb also had a moment in the spotlight.
The performance reached its crescendo when Megan Thee Stallion stepped in, delivering a fresh take on Lil' Kim's original rap verse.
"Lady Marmalade" holds a special place in pop culture history. P!nk, Lil' Kim, Christina Aguilera, and Mya recorded their chart-topping version in 2001 for the Moulin Rouge film, starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor. The track went on to win a Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals in 2002.
Megan Thee Stallion's appearance was particularly significant given her recent hospitalization and subsequent early departure from Moulin Rouge! The Musical. She had been playing the role of Zidler, the musical's owner and MC, and concluded her run on May 1st, earlier than her initially slated May 17th finish.
Later in the evening, Megan Thee Stallion returned to the Tony Awards stage to present the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical, cementing her presence at Broadway's biggest night.
