Red Hot Chili Peppers Sell Music Catalog to Warner for Over $300 Million
Red Hot Chili Peppers have sold their entire recorded music catalog, including 13 studio albums, to Warner Music Group for over $300 million.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers have made a significant move, selling their recorded music catalog to Warner Music Group for a sum exceeding $300 million, according to Billboard reports. This extensive deal encompasses the band's entire recorded output, featuring their impressive collection of 13 studio albums, which reportedly generate around $26 million annually.
While the band independently owned their recorded catalog for the past year, allegedly seeking $350 million for it, Warner emerges as a fitting buyer, especially considering their history of releasing iconic albums like Blood Sugar Sex Magik and Californication.
It's important to distinguish this transaction from the Red Hot Chili Peppers' 2015 sale, where Hipgnosis Songs Fund acquired the band's publishing rights for approximately $150 million. However, the landscape may shift further as Sony Music is currently in pursuit of acquiring Hipgnosis (now known as Recognition Music Group) in a multi-billion dollar deal.
In 2022, the Red Hot Chili Peppers released two albums, Unlimited Love and Return of the Dream Canteen, marking their most recent contributions to their discography. They now join the ranks of prominent artists like Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and Justin Bieber who have opted to sell their catalogs to major companies. Conversely, artists such as Taylor Swift and Dua Lipa are taking a different approach, actively buying back their own material.
