Russell Brand Faces New Sexual Offense Charges in Court

Russell Brand has appeared in Westminster Magistrates’ Court via video link from Florida, facing two further sexual offences charges, including rape. This adds to the existing legal battles he faces, stemming from allegations dating back to between 1999 and 2005.

Brand has already denied five allegations involving four women from between 1999 and 2005, including two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault.

In December, he was charged with one count of rape and one count of sexual assault related to two more women. These alleged offenses reportedly took place in London in 2009.

During the brief court appearance, Brand confirmed his name and date of birth. Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring KC stated that one of the charges is indictable only, meaning it can only be tried in the Crown Court.

Brand was granted bail and is scheduled to appear at Southwark Crown Court for a plea hearing on February 17, with the condition that he must notify the police of any address changes.

A trial related to the original five charges is expected to begin later this year. The charges include accusations of rape in a hotel room during a Labour Party conference in Bournemouth, as well as allegations of sexual assault against a TV worker and a radio station employee.

The charges were initially brought against Brand on April 4 of last year. He released a video statement denying all allegations following an investigation triggered by reporting from Channel 4's Dispatches and The Sunday Times in September 2023.
