Shakira Denies Political Endorsement, Urges Transparent Colombian Elections

Global superstar Shakira has issued a clear statement, affirming she does “not support any candidate” currently vying for the presidency in Colombia. This comes after promotional images circulated on social media, depicting the artist alongside candidates Iván Cepeda and Aida Quilcué.

“The images circulating of me supporting presidential candidates are fake,” Shakira declared in a statement. “I do not support any candidate, nor have I authorized the use of my image in any campaign.”

These misleading images are not the first attempt to associate Shakira with Cepeda; earlier in the year, unsubstantiated rumors claimed a distant familial connection between the two. The artist has consistently refrained from publicly endorsing any political figure, maintaining a neutral stance when it comes to influencing her vast Colombian fanbase.

“My commitment is to Colombia, to its democracy and to the right of every Colombian to choose freely,” she underscored. “My wish is for these elections to proceed transparently and in a peaceful environment for all Colombians.”

While remaining politically neutral in her home country's elections, Shakira has previously voiced strong opinions on social justice issues. Last year, she spoke out about the challenges faced by immigrants in the United States under the Trump administration, describing it as “living in constant fear.” At the time, she stressed the importance of unity and humane treatment for all people, regardless of immigration policies.

Shakira embarked on her international journey from Colombia at the age of 19. She later resided in Barcelona before settling in Miami following the end of her 11-year relationship with Spanish soccer player Gerard Piqué.

The artist recently captivated audiences with four sold-out concerts in Colombia in February as part of her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour, which continues this weekend in Miami Gardens.
