The Beach Boys' Lost Album 'Adult/Child' Finally Sees the Light of Day in New Box Set

In 1976, following a period of absence, Brian Wilson rejoined The Beach Boys, even participating in their touring lineup for the first time since 1964. This marked a creative resurgence, leading to the release of the cult-favorite album The Beach Boys Love You in 1977. What followed was an ambitious, experimental project titled Adult/Child.

Despite its potential, Adult/Child remained unreleased, reportedly due to skepticism from the band's label and some of Wilson's bandmates. Over the years, the album gained legendary status through bootlegs. Now, after decades of anticipation, it's finally getting an official release.

The Beach Boys have announced We Gotta Groove: The Brother Studio Years, a new box set showcasing their recordings from Brian Wilson's return in the '70s. The centerpiece is a remastered version of The Beach Boys Love You, accompanied by the long-awaited official debut of Adult/Child, along with a wealth of outtakes and alternate versions.

Mixing engineer James Sáez and Beach Boys historian Howie Edelson co-produced We Gotta Groove, with band archivist Alan Boyd serving as artistic director. The collection, available as a three-CD or three-LP set, features 35 previously unreleased tracks and 22 newly mixed ones. The set includes liner notes from Edelson and archival interview quotes from all members of The Beach Boys.
