The Chicks are hitting the road to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Taking the Long Way with a North American tour this fall. The tour kicks off September 30 at Detroit’s Fox Theatre and continues through November, hitting theaters and concert halls across the country.
Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire, and Emily Strayer have been actively touring since their 2020 return from a 13-year hiatus. That year also marked the release of their comeback album, Gaslighter, and their decision to drop "Dixie" from their name.
Taking the Long Way marked a pivotal moment for The Chicks, as it was their first album released after facing public criticism for their views on then-President George W. Bush. The ensuing backlash was severe, yet the album persevered, winning Album of the Year at the 2007 Grammy Awards. The lead single, "Not Ready to Make Nice," also took home Record and Song of the Year.
