The Indigenous Setlist: Amplifying Native and Indigenous Voices in Modern Music

Native and Indigenous artists are taking center stage in a powerful new podcast series, The Indigenous Setlist. A collaboration between Indigenous House and Little Bear Audio, this forthcoming series promises to dive deep into the vibrant sounds and stories shaping modern music.

Crystal Echo Hawk, founder of Indigenous House, highlights the impact these artists are already making. "The artists featured in Season One are scoring some of the most popular series streaming now, signing to major record labels, climbing the charts, and headlining some of the biggest music festivals around the country," she stated. "These artists aren’t waiting for permission — they are pushing boundaries, blending their own personal stories and lived experiences with new and innovative sounds that are looking towards the future and reshaping the modern music landscape."

The series kicks off on June 22 with the acclaimed duo The Halluci Nation, representing the Six Nations of the Grand River (Mohawk) and Cayuga Nations. Subsequent weekly episodes will feature engaging conversations with a diverse array of talent.

Listeners can expect to hear from country reggae artist Maoli of the Native Hawaiian community, the punk rock band Dead Pioneers of Pyramid Lake Paiute, and alt-rock and soul artist Aysanabee from the Sandy Lake First Nation (Oji-Cree), among many others.

As Ehren Thomas of The Halluci Nation powerfully states in the podcast's trailer, "It’s always like, ‘Oh, there’s this explosion of talent in the native community.’ Like, no, there’s no explosion. It’s been here." The Indigenous Setlist directly challenges such preconceived notions, aiming to highlight the enduring success and innovation of Native and Indigenous artists who are often overlooked.

Ian Sorrentino of Little Bear Audio underscores the series' mission: "From folk to hip-hop, from well-known acts to emerging talent, the stories and sounds of these artists are vibrant and boundary-pushing, and I can’t wait for listeners to learn more about the motivations behind their music." He adds, "These artists are proof that contemporary Indigenous music belongs in every playlist, on every soundtrack, and on every stage, and we invite everyone to tune in and learn more about these unique sounds."
