The Wire Actor Bobby J. Brown Dies in Tragic Barn Fire at 62
Bobby J. Brown, best known for his role as a police officer in the acclaimed series The Wire, has passed away at the age of 62 following a barn fire. The actor's death is ruled as an accident.
Bobby J. Brown, the actor celebrated for his role as a police officer on The Wire, has tragically died in a barn fire at the age of 62.
Maryland authorities confirmed to TMZ that Brown succumbed to diffuse thermal injury and smoke inhalation. The incident has been ruled an accident.
According to his daughter Reina’s social media, Brown entered a barn on his property in St Mary County, Maryland, on Tuesday, February 24th, to jumpstart a car when the vehicle ignited.
His family tried to put out the fire and called firefighters, but the Maryland fire marshal’s office declared him dead at the scene.
“It hurts in a way that sits heavy in my chest and does not move,” his daughter shared. “I would give anything to hear his voice again, to see him one more time, and to have one more conversation. The suddenness of it is overwhelming. One ordinary evening can become the last moment you ever get.”

On The Wire, the HBO crime epic, he played a police officer named Bobby Brown, appearing in 12 episodes from 2002 to 2008.
His other acting credits included Sgt. Thomas Allers in We Own This City (another acclaimed HBO crime series from 2022), Law & Order: SVU, Veep, Homicide: Life On The Street, and The Corner.
Born in Washington, DC, Brown began his career as a professional boxer before pursuing acting, inspired by Mickey Rourke in Homeboy (1988).
His agent, Albert Bramante, told TMZ: “I am upset and saddened. He was such a good actor and person. He was totally dedicated to the craft of acting and was a joy to work with.”
Brown is the third The Wire star to pass away recently, following the deaths of Isiah Whitlock Jr (71) and James Ransone (46) in December.
