Unexpected Collab Alert: Chuck D and John Densmore Unite as doPE for 'no country for old men'
Chuck D of Public Enemy and John Densmore of The Doors have joined forces to create a new project, doPE. Their debut album, no country for old men, is slated for release on Record Store Day, April 18th.

The genesis of this unlikely collaboration dates back to 2014, when Chuck D, then the official ambassador for Record Store Day, met John Densmore on an RSD panel. A year later, Chuck D reportedly emailed Densmore with a proposition: "You’ve got the beats, I’ve got the rhymes, let’s make doPE." The name, a blend of The Doors' lowercase logo and Public Enemy's abbreviation, PE, has now become a reality.
The debut album, no country for old men, is set to drop on April 18th for Record Store Day. The lead single, "every tick tick tick," has already been humorously dubbed Record Store Day's 2026 Song Of The Year.
According to a press release, Densmore sent a message to Chuck after receiving some lyrical ideas: "Everybody gets older, but not everybody gets elder." Chuck D praised Densmore's contribution, stating, "John Densmore’s beat isn’t just rhythm, it’s history talking. He's been scoring moments of our culture for decades, and that wisdom hits different when it meets the now. This collaboration is about locking generations together and pushing sound forward."
While we await the opportunity to hear "every tick tick tick" and determine if it truly "captures that moment, as well as the times we’re living in," as Record Store Day Co-Founder Michael Kurtz suggests, here's the tracklist for no country for old men:
