Violet Grohl Unleashes Raw Talent with New Tracks 'Thum' and 'Applefish' After Signing with Republic Records
Violet Grohl, daughter of Dave Grohl, has signed with Republic Records/Island EMI and released two compelling new songs, 'Thum' and 'Applefish,' showcasing her range and artistry.

Violet Grohl, the Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter and daughter of Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl, has officially signed with Republic Records / Island EMI through her own imprint, Auroura Records. This exciting news arrives alongside the release of two brand new tracks, 'Thum' and 'Applefish'.
'Thum' explodes with muscular riffs and raw emotion, while 'Applefish' unveils Grohl’s softer side, characterized by cinematic production and heartfelt tenderness.
“I’m beyond excited to finally share a little bit of what I’ve been working on over the last year,” Grohl shared. “I made these tracks with the most badass group of musicians, so happy they’re finally yours :).”
Kristina Grossmann, SVP of A&R at Republic, expressed her enthusiasm: “From the moment we met Violet, it was clear that she represents the next generation of artists. The music is immediate, intentional and her voice holds a rare duality. She is unapologetically cool and is a fearless female voice. We couldn’t be more excited to help bring her vision and this album to life.”
David Wolter, EVP at Republic, added: “Violet brings a rare combination of perspective, artistry, and reverence for the craft. She understands the history of music, but she’s also pushing it forward. She is the future.”
Last week, Grohl also shared the David Lynch-inspired track ‘What’s Heaven Without You’ to mark the anniversary of the director's passing.

In late 2024, reports surfaced that Violet was crafting her debut solo album with producer Justin Raisen (Kim Gordon, Charli XCX, Sky Ferreira). Her father has also expressed his desire to contribute to the album.
In 2021, Violet, alongside her father Dave, released a cover of ‘Nausea’, originally by Los Angeles punk band X.
She began touring with Foo Fighters in 2018, providing backing vocals. She also performed at the tribute concerts for the late Taylor Hawkins in 2022 and featured on the band's 2023 song ‘Show Me How,’ even joining them at Glastonbury that year.
When the surviving members of Nirvana – Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear – reunited for a set at the Fire Aid benefit concert in LA, Violet joined for lead vocals on ‘All Apologies’.
