Weezer is back, adding another self-titled chapter to their iconic discography, and this time, it's shimmering gold. The highly anticipated LP is slated for an August 21 release via Reprise/Warner, marking their first full-length effort since 2021's Van Weezer and OK Human, and the subsequent Sznz EP series.
This new collection, affectionately known as Weezer (The Gold Album), boasts a significant milestone: the first co-write between frontman Rivers Cuomo and drummer Pat Wilson since the band’s seminal debut.
Adding another layer of intrigue, the lead single, "We Might as Well Be Strangers," features a compelling duet between Cuomo and Wednesday's Karly Hartzman. Fans can catch the accompanying video, directed by Jasper Graham.
The Gold Album was helmed by a dynamic production duo: Klas Åhlund and Kenneth Blume, better known as Kenny Beats. In a press statement, Kenny Beats shared his ambitious vision for the project, aiming to craft “the most violent Weezer album ever.”
This release also ties into the recently announced "Weezer: The Gathering" tour, kicking off in September with support from The Shins and Silversun Pickups. The Gold Album continues the band's renowned color-themed album series, which includes, in reverse-chronological order, Black, Teal, White, Red, Green, and their iconic debut, The Blue Album, now preserved in the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry.
