Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan Collaboration Surfaces on New Album 'Dream Chaser'
At 92, Willie Nelson announces his 156th album, 'Dream Chaser,' featuring a collaboration with Bob Dylan and Buddy Cannon titled 'I Can’t Read Your Mind.'
It seems Willie Nelson simply refuses to slow down. Fresh off a collaboration with Lawnmower Man actor Jeff Fahey in January, the country music legend has announced his 156th album, Dream Chaser, and released the title track. But it's another song on the album that's generating significant buzz.
For the past two summers, Nelson has headlined the Outlaw Music Tour alongside fellow icon Bob Dylan. Last December, The New Yorker published an extensive profile of Nelson, concluding with a heartfelt tribute from Dylan. Now, Dream Chaser will include "I Can’t Read Your Mind," a song co-written by Nelson, Dylan, and Nelson's longtime collaborator, Buddy Cannon.
The existence of "I Can't Read Your Mind" was initially revealed in a GQ profile of Nelson last year. Nelson explained the collaborative process:
> We’re both writers and both guitar players, so I can give him an idea for a song. He can take it and write it and record it and send it back to me in that way. He’s a great writer himself. Bob Dylan and I were talking a while back about writing a song together. He had an idea of “I can’t read your mind.” We started with, “I can’t read your mind. The letters are too small.” I handed that over to Buddy, and he took it and turned it into a good song. That’s pretty rare with Bob.
The Luck Reunion, the annual music festival hosted on Nelson's property near Austin, is set to take place this Thursday. The impressive lineup includes Nelson, his son Lukas Nelson, St. Vincent, Booker T. Jones, and many more. This spring, Nelson and his family band will also perform a series of shows across the southeast with Drayton Farley as a special guest.
