The countdown is on for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to take place across 16 cities in Canada, Mexico, and the United States from June 11 to July 19. For the first time, the tournament will be co-hosted across multiple countries, and FIFA is marking the occasion with multiple opening ceremonies.

Celebrations in the US will commence on June 12 at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, preceding the US match against Paraguay. The headliners for this event are set to include Katy Perry, Future, Anitta, Lisa, Rema, and Tyla.

Before the US event, Mexico and Canada will also host opening ceremonies. This marks a historic moment as FIFA features multiple opening ceremonies across different countries for a single tournament.

In Canada, the opening ceremony at Toronto’s BMO Field will feature a lineup of celebrated artists including Alanis Morissette, Alessia Cara, Elyanna, Jessie Reyez, Michael Bublé, Nora Fatei, Sanjoy, Vegedream, and William Prince. They will take the stage before Canada's opener against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Meanwhile, Mexico City’s Azteca Stadium will host J Balvin, Tyla, Lila Downs, Los Ángeles Azules, Maná, Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, and Danny Ocean before Mexico and South Africa face off on June 11.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino shared his enthusiasm in a statement: "This opening ceremony in Los Angeles represents the extraordinary scale of what the FIFA World Cup 2026 will become. The lineup of artists reflects the cultural diversity of the United States and the vibrancy of its many diasporas, highlighting the nation’s rich influence on music, entertainment and pop culture, while showcasing the power of music to bring people together across the country."

More artists are expected to be announced in the lead-up to the tournament.

In other World Cup related news, the Night Time Industries Association (NTIA) has suggested that nightclubs should hold screenings and act as ‘fan zones’ for the tournament.

Last summer, Robbie Williams released the first-ever official FIFA anthem, ‘Desire’ (featuring Laura Pausini). The pop icon co-founded Soccer Aid for UNICEF with Jonathan Wilkes in 2006. He has competed in the charity matches and performed live at the event.

In July, Coldplay, Doja Cat, J Balvin and Tems performed at the FIFA Club World Cup final halftime show at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. It was previously confirmed that Chris Martin would be helping to choose the acts to appear at the first-ever World Cup half-time show this year.
