Alabama Shakes Return with Reflective New Single 'American Dream'

Alabama Shakes are back with a new single, “American Dream,” marking their second release since their unexpected reunion in late 2024. This release comes as anticipation builds for their upcoming tour.

According to Brittany Howard, "American Dream" encapsulates the current state of affairs in 2026. She reflects, “It’s a snapshot of what we’re living through in 2026. I look around and wonder how we got to a place where there’s so much strain and so little support... My hope is that one day people will hear this song and say, ‘Yeah, shit was crazy back then, but we made it through.’”

After nearly a decade-long hiatus, Alabama Shakes, consisting of Howard, bassist Zac Cockrell, and guitarist Heath Fogg, surprised fans with a reunion gig in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, in December 2024. This was followed by a tour in 2025 and the release of "Another Life," their first new song in over ten years.

The band is reportedly set to release their third studio album, their first since 2015’s Sound & Color, later this year. This will be their debut album with Island Records, with whom they signed in 2025.

“American Dream” precedes Alabama Shakes' North American amphitheater tour, kicking off on April 16. They will also be supporting Zach Bryan at select concerts in Eugene, Oregon, and Dover, Delaware.
