Björk Announces New Album in 2027, Throws Surprise DJ Set at Venice Biennale
Avant-pop icon Björk teases a new album for 2027, alongside a surprise DJ set at the Venice Biennale and details regarding her 'Echolalia' exhibition.
Last December, Björk hinted at a forthcoming album, a successor to her 2022 release, Fossora. More recently, the Icelandic innovator surprised fans with a DJ set at the Venice Biennale, signaling a vibrant new chapter.
Donning a striking dress crafted from recycled fiberglass from Louise Trotter's Bottega Veneta fall 2026 collection, Björk transformed the prestigious art event into an impromptu rave. In a post on X, she dedicated the set to Ásta Fanney Sigurðardóttir, Iceland's chosen artist for the Biennale.

Further stoking anticipation, Björk shared updates about her upcoming album, slated for release in 2027, and announced a solar eclipse rave scheduled for August. Her statement clarifies the 'Echolalia' project:

'Echolalia' isn't the album title, but rather an 'umbrella-exhibition-name' giving two Fossora tracks – 'ancestress' and 'sorrowful soil' – the spatial treatment she envisioned. This includes re-recorded choir parts and textile scores, alongside visuals by Andy Huang and Viðar Logi. A preview of a new song, in collaboration with two unnamed artists, will also feature, with the final version appearing on the 2027 album.
Björk emphasized the extended creative process, noting that five years will have passed between her last two albums, allowing for meticulous world-building and alignment of various artistic elements. The 'Echolalia' event also includes a mask exhibition by James Merry and an updated Vulnicura VR experience, plus a rave with Arca, Ronja, and Sideproject.
